#WeAreBetterThanThis is More Than Just a Hashtag
As you know, inclusion is a huge deal for me. I believe that the voices of traditionally marginalized people need to be heard and given a space to share their experiences and how it shapes their lives.
However, as you’ve seen in the media lately, hate speech is becoming more and more prevalent these days. This is not okay, and I firmly believe that it never will be okay. #WeAreBetterThanThis
Language can bring people together or pull them apart. Language should be inclusive, not exclusive. Our hopes, fears, and dreams are intricately tied with one another’s. By failing our brothers and sisters, we are also failing ourselves. This is not an “us” versus “them” problem, we all deserve respect, kindness, and peace.
Along with thousands of other individuals, I too make the following pledge:
WE CALL UPON OUR POLITICIANS, LEADERS AND THE MEDIA TO STOP THE SPREAD OF HATE AND DIVISION. AND WE PLEDGE TO STAND WITH ANY COMMUNITY THAT IS TARGETED BY HATEFUL RHETORIC AND VIOLENCE.
With Love and Understanding,
Ebonye
